About LEAP

LEAP's goal is to alleviate the educational disparities in Mount Diablo Unified School District—a public school district that serves students K-12 in Contra Costa County, California—and surrounding areas. For one, LEAP provides individualized tutoring services to unhoused and/or foster youth students, pairing an academically struggling student with a high school tutor who has mastered the subjects the student needs support in. However, LEAP goes beyond education and wants to ensure that its students have access to essential items; we are always looking to partner with organizations who are able to provide financial support and/or donations. During extended breaks, we shift from providing individualized tutoring to hosting enriching activities in group settings that are both educational and fun!

HOPE & FYS

LEAP was created in conjunction with HOPE (Homeless Outreach Program for Education) and FYS (Foster Youth Services) of MDUSD. HOPE gives educational and related services for homeless students in grades preschool-12; they also provide meals for students, transportation to school if needed, and referrals to resources in the community.  FYS supports children who are in and out of foster and ensures that all foster youth in the district have a safe and nurturing learning environment; FYS's office staff, social workers, and interns provide foster youth and caregivers with direct support and tools. Many of the LEAP scholars are either supported by HOPE and/or FYS.

What We Do
Tutoring

LEAP pairs together homeless and foster youth students who are struggling in school with  volunteer high school tutors.

Collect Donations

We reach out to local organizations and non-profits to collect goods and/or funds to provide material resources to homeless and foster youth.

Enrichment

During extended breaks, we host fun and educational group activities for the LEAP scholars.
